koha-1.9.1

Tagged:

Paul writes: "This new version is really close from the stable 2.0 version. What's new: standard acquisition and MARC cataloguing now both useable at the same time; MANY bugfixes; almost everything now templated, a few admin scripts still to template; inclusion of some pictures to say "add", "modify", "delete" in many places; the koha-html cvs tree is now UNUSED, and no mode included in this release. The koha cvs project contains everything. TODO: z39.50 support - a port from the 1.2.x z39.50 support needs to be done; should be quick; fixing bugs - if you find a bug in this version, please take the plane and go for a trip to bugs.koha.org. Feature freeze is there... only z39.50 will be added until 2.0RC1, which should be the next release!

Known bugs *IMPORTANT*: koha does NOT work with MARC::Record 1.12. It works fine with MARC::Record 0.93, and maybe with other versions; repeated subfields in MARC/iso2709 works poorly; in the MARC search, the "not" flag does not work; en and fr are the only languages well supported in this version. Other translator teams are waiting for more stable templates.

PhpMyBibli improved

Franois writes: "Due to the incoming of new developpers, PhpMyBibli (a free library automation system) is now on the right track to become fully functionnal. Jesir Vargas from Puerto Rico has almost completely translate the whole thing in english and spanish and is at the point to finish the portuguese translation. Eric Robert from France did a great job on UNIMARC integration. UNIMARC import is now working fairly, even the 995 field that is crucial for french small libraries. Lots of bugs have been corrected and the code was cleaned in a drastic way by the time we were rearranging the database structure to improve its reliability and speed. We are coding the loan-module to reach version 1.0 during spring." A demo version is available at sourceforge.

Avanti MicroLCS-1.0 beta 2

Peter writes: "Avanti MicroLCS version 1.0 beta 2 has been released. New in beta 2 is a standalone GUI client application. It has the same clean, elegant look and feel of the Applet client, but it does not need to run in a web browser. This makes it possible to deploy Avanti MicroLCS in environments where a web server and browser may not be available or needed. Also in this release are a number of bug fixes, improvements to the API and the user interface. Attention turns to beta 3 development, which will focus on very intensive debugging, testing, and refactoring of the existing system. The aim is to ensure that what exists is rock solid in every way, is scalable, and works extremely well."

Paul writes: "koha 1.9.0 was born a few minutes ago. His parents, the koha-team, are very proud of this almost-stable children. This version includes: dozens of bugfixes; the MARC acquisition part is now completly stable, and used in production in France since december; templating almost ended; translations now available : french (almost finished), chinese, spanish, and polish; circulation now works; non ISO-5589-1 support (for chinese and polish); improvements in marc import in breeding farm; first draft of search in MARC-DB; librarian interface demo (please note that by default this site should be in FRENCH. If you modify parameters, don't forget to put fr again in systemprefs!) Next version planned is 1.9.1."

PhpMyBibli

Franois writes: "This is an announcement for a free (GPL) library automated system based on PHP and MySQL. PhpMyBibli (still in french, sorry...), still in development phase, aims to provide a convenient and easy to use interface for the librarian and the library's public featuring: UNIMARC support (and maybe various flavour of MARC), authorities management, administration made easy for the librarian, advanced OPAC functions : collection browsing, etc...)."

Avanti-1.0 beta 1

Tagged:

Peter writes: "Avanti version 1.0 beta 1 is released. As a beta version, this release is still rough around the edges. But it comes close in form and substance to what is expected of Avanti MicroLCS version 1.0 as a serviceable library system. Although far from perfect, this beta release is a tangible representative of what has been in the works in the past year and what is to come: a simple, flexible, platform independent general purpose library system. Hard work continues at polishing and thoroughly testing version 1.0 proper, which should be available in one or two months. Stay tuned."

Koha-1.3.3

Tagged:

pate writes: "Thanks to more hard work by Paul Poulain and his band of french hackers (and thanks to the support of the Nelsonville Public Library), Koha is continuing to improve. The big step this time is the release of Koha 1.3.3, a development release of the branch destined to become Koha 2.0. This release features many bug fixes, improvements to MARC handling, and French, Spanish, and Polish translations (not yet complete but hey, this *is* a development release.) This will be the last 1.3.X release. The next schedule release will be 1.9.0 marking feature completion for the 2.0.0 release."

OpenOPAC for ISIS/WXIS

Nicolas wrote to oss4lib-discuss: "On behalf of the Facultad de Ciencias Exactas y Naturales de la Universidad de Buenos Aires (FCEN-UBA), and the Biblioteca Central "Dr. Luis F. Leloir" of FCEN-UBA (Central Library), we are pleased to announce the distribution of "OpenOPAC", our OPAC (Online Public Access Catalog), as a free software, with open source under LGPL (GNU Lesser General Public License). It has been a couple of years now that we have been developing our OPAC on WXIS (also know as WWWIsis, though note that WXIS is not open source), and it has reached some level of "evolution"; meanwhile, the idea has grown in us that it is a good thing to tend towards the open source concept, among other reasons, as a way of cooperation between coutries/institutions/peoples with few resources. That is why, very humbly, yet with some pride, we want to announce that we have made ready a set of IsisScripts combined with HTML and JavaScript for a Web-based OPAC (using WXIS). Showing some lack of imagination, we have called it "OpenOPAC", but we are open to better ideas. This development is far from perfect, but it is a starting point from which we might generate the critical mass necessary to do things in this direction (ISIS/WXIS + open source). It is also a call to collaborate, for those interested in making a better code. If you want a copy of OpenOPAC, please send an email asking for it, including the name of the Institution you work at, to openopac@bl.fcen.uba.ar."

koha-1.3.2

Paul writes: "We've just released Koha 1.3.2, the next alpha version of the forthcoming 2.0 series. This release features many improvments in MARC management from 1.3.1; acquisition.simple now works; you can upload marc files in a breeding farm; for ISBN/ISSN search in the acquisition screen, with the "New biblio" option and the biblio is in the breeding farm, it's automatically retrieved and can be modified; installer now install marc21 in english or unimarc in french datas; marc parameters complete documentation.
If the 2.0 release sounds exciting to you and you've got some MARC, Perl, or HTML background, please consider jumping in and helping with 2.0 development. There are opportunities for people of all skill levels.
